FM Livni to Secy Rice: There is today hope for peace
FM Livni: We need to remind ourselves where we stood only a year ago, when we faced terror attacks, when the situation in the Gaza Strip led to an understanding that there was no hope for peace.

We launched Annapolis process. There is now a dialogue between Israel and diplomatic leaders on the Palestinian side. There is hope for peace, which can represent the interests of both sides.

Defense Minister Barak meets with President Mubarak in Alexandria, Egypt
Israeli Defense Minister Barak told Egyptian President Mubarak that he release of the abducted soldier, Gilad Shalit, occupies a place of prime importance on Israel's national agenda and that Israel views Egypt as a central factor in Shalit's return. Barak also conveyed his appreciation for Egypt's efforts in preventing arms smuggling to the Gaza Strip, but emphasized efforts must be made to reduce smuggling even more.

Behind the Headlines: Israeli measures against Hamas in the West Bank

10 Jul 2008
DM Ehud Barak recently signed an order banning 36 "charity" funds which are part of Hamas's fundraising network. By providing ostensibly "charitable" services, the Hamas terror organization promotes its armed agenda under a civilian umbrella, seeking to usurp control of the West Bank from the legitimate Palestinian Authority, as it has already done in the Gaza Strip.

The institutions indoctrinate youth with an ideology of terrorism and violence, and provide financial support for the families of killed and imprisoned terrorists - thus providing an incentive for terrorist enlistment.

Remains of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser officially identified
On Wednesday, 16 July 2008, after two years of waiting for a sign of life from the two abducted Israeli soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, their bodies were returned to Israel.
- IDF: Identification of two abducted soldiers completed

Israel, which mourns their loss, has a duty, as a nation and as a people, to protect those who risk their young lives to defend its citizens. The times and locations of their funerals will be announced.

Shlomo, Ehud Goldwasser's father: "If Nasrallah's great achievement was to conceal the fate of our sons, then I pity him and the Lebanese people. If Hizbullah's great achievement is the release of Kuntar, who is nothing but a repulsive murderer, then I pity them."

Two years in terrorist captivity 

Two years have passed since IDF soldier Gilad Shalit on the Israeli side of the border with Gaza on June 25, 2006.
Defense Minister Barak (26 June 2008): "As a soldier, former commander and defense minister I say that we have a moral responsibility to bring the soldiers back home, dead or alive."
